Simple Steps to Brew Extract
- Fill the kettle with water, put the soaked grains into the mesh bag, and turn the burner to high. Soak the grains for 30 minutes, then remove and drain.
- Bring the water to a boil. Once boiling, turn off the burner, add the malt extract, stir until dissolved, then return the water to a boil.
- Add hops during the boil according to the recipe.
- Set the wort cooler, then add to the kettle and boil for the final 20 minutes. After boiling, the water is circulated through the wort cooler to reduce to fermentation temperature.
- Disinfect the fermenter and accompanying accessories. Transfer the wort to the fermenter.
- Use a hydrometer to take gravity readings.
- Add yeast when the wort is at the right temperature.
- Ferment the beer, check activity, and take gravity readings when activity stops to determine if the beer has fermented.
- On the day of bottling, dissolve the base sugar in boiling water and add it to the beer after cooling.
- Disinfect and clean your bottles, caps, filling machines and pipes. Set up the filling machine and start bottling and capping the beer.
- Allow your bottle to carbonate for about two weeks.
- Taste the beer and repeat process
